January 19, 2017 – The former teaching team of Keri Sutton and Sarah Brown were presented with CPF-SK’s Inspiring Teacher of the Year Award.
This teaching duo created the French Immersion Middle Years Student Retreat at École Victoria School. This retreat for grade five to eight students allowed them an incredible cultural learning experience to “live, eat, sleep, dance, sing, play, and dream in French, in the middle of winter, at Cedar Lodge at Blackstrap Lake.” They dedicated countless hours to fundraising which they then turned into French community building opportunities.
Jonelle Ulrich had this to say about the dynamic teaching duo, “I have yet to have the fortune of working alongside and observing a more distinguished teaching team. The compliment of Social Studies, Music, and Language passion on Keri’s side with the love of Science, Language, Mathematics, and Art on Sarah’s is truly a combination that can’t be beat, especially when you have two people delivering it with the energy they possess. They truly allow students the opportunity to live an authentic French immersion learning experience. The passion they show for French immersion is delivered through both their tireless hard work and talent as teachers. Both French immersion students themselves and BAC (Baccalauréat en éducation Program at the University of Regina) graduates, they are examples of lifelong second-language-learners.”
Keri and Sarah inspire not only their students, but have inspired their fellow staff to be the best French immersion teachers they can be.
