Program Information

Are you a parent looking for help with your child’s French as a second language (FSL) studies?

Look no further!  CPF has a Virtual Tutoring Program to meet your needs.

Who is the program for?

The Canadian Parents for French Virtual Tutoring Program was created for parents who made a commitment to have their children learn French. The Program provides students from 5 to 14 years of age with additional support for their FSL learning journey.

How does it work?

  • Children spend one hour/week in a one-on-one session with a volunteer French-speaking tutor;
  • the service is offered free or at a very low cost to families; and
  • sessions take place virtually, so a computer, camera, microphone and internet connection are required.

What are the benefits of this program?

The benefits of this program are endless, as it:

  • exposes students to a variety of French accents;
  • offers informal and friendly conversational support;
  • promotes bilingualism among Canadian youth;
  • builds confidence and resilience; and
  • is fun and safe way for your child to improve their French!

What do students work on?

Students can choose to work on whatever skills they need to improve. This can include reading, writing, speaking or even homework help. Tutors come to each lesson prepared with a variety of fun-filled activities that are both engaging and instructional!

The next session begins Spring/Summer 2024. Registration will open first to those families on the Waitlist.

FAQ

No. This program is not an academic tutoring program and does not follow a pre-determined curriculum. As a result, we do not provide progress reports for students who are enrolled.

No, not necessarily. The idea is to expose your child to different accents and backgrounds so typically your child will have a new tutor each week.

No. As we are a 100% volunteer-based program, we cannot guarantee a session every week, but it is our goal to make sure your child has weekly sessions!

There is a limit to three children per family.

We are proud to have a diverse group of French-speaking volunteers, residing in nine provinces and who represent over 16 countries of origin before calling Canada home! CPF tutors are at least 16 years old and fluent in both English and French.

If you’re bilingual or francophone and you’re ready for a meaningful, rewarding experience, we’d love it if you applied! The minimum time commitment is one hour per week. If you want to become a volunteer tutor, you can complete a registration form HERE.
